How our structural engineering service works

The process is the same whether you need one RSJ or a full set of drawings for an extension, loft conversion or small commercial project.

1

Send drawings and photos

You email architect plans, sketches or even measured photos along with the property address. We confirm what needs designing.

2

Fixed fee and programme

We send a clear fixed fee and typical turnaround. Most domestic jobs complete within 24 to 72 hours once we have everything.

3

Calculations and drawings

We design beams, walls, slabs and foundations, then issue drawings, markups and calculation sheets in PDF.

4

Support to sign off

If the Building Control officer or warranty provider has queries, we clarify the design and issue revisions where agreed.

Who will design your structural engineering pack

Your calculations are produced in house by experienced UK structural engineers with chartered backgrounds and day to day experience in extensions, lofts and wall removals.

🎓

Structural engineering services – frequently asked questions

Short, plain English answers to the questions we hear most often from UK homeowners, small developers and builders.

How much does a structural engineer cost for a wall removal?

Most simple load bearing wall removals with one RSJ and clear photos fall in the low hundreds, not thousands. The exact fee depends on spans, loads and how many beams or openings are involved. Send your drawings or photos through the form and we will confirm a fixed fee before you commit.

Do you only work on residential projects?

Most of our work is for houses and small residential schemes, but we also design portal frames, mezzanines, industrial floors and retaining walls for light commercial projects. If your job is beyond our normal scope we will say so at the start rather than stretch beyond our experience.

Can you design my project without a site visit?

In many cases yes. Clear drawings, photos and basic measurements usually give enough information for structural engineering services such as RSJ design, extensions and loft conversions. If a visit is needed we explain why and include it as part of the quote.

How long do your calculations take?

Simple steel beams or wall removals are often turned round in 24 to 48 hours once we have all the details. Extensions, loft conversions and more involved schemes usually take three to seven working days. We confirm timescales before you approve the quote.

What design codes do you use and why does that matter?

We design to the Eurocodes with the UK National Annexes, which is what Building Control expect to see on most new work. Using the correct partial factors, load combinations and serviceability limits means the structure is checked in a way that matches current UK standards and inspector expectations.

Will Building Control accept your designs?

Our packs are prepared to current standards, with clear drawings and calculation sheets. Building Control officers across the UK already use our work. If they have questions on a particular job we respond and adjust where needed as part of the service, not a surprise extra.

Can you help me choose the right service?

Yes. If you are not sure whether you need an RSJ design, full extension pack or something more specialist, send your drawings and a short note through the form below. We will confirm which structural engineering services fit your project and give a clear fixed fee.
